Review for "The Reckoning" by Kelley Armstrong
The Reckoning by Kelly Armstrong (#3 in the Darkest Powers series)
Genre: YA/Supernatural
Page Count: 391
Synopsis: Chloe Saunders is fifteen and would love to be normal. Unfortunately, Chloe happens to be a genetically engineered necromancer who can raise the dead without even trying. She and her equally gifted (or should that be 'cursed'?) friends are now running for their lives from the evil corporation that created them.
As if that's not enough, Chloe is struggling with her feelings for Simon, a sweet-tempered sorcerer, and his brother Derek, a not so sweet-tempered werewolf. And she has a horrible feeling that she's leaning towards the werewolf...
Definitely not normal.

Review: The one thing that really bothered me about this book was how the love triangle was introduced in it. Because a girl on the run from an evil corporation that's trying to destroy her and her loved ones totally has time to lament over which boy to pick. Luckily, it's not that much of a love triangle, but it is played up especially with the angle of Simon and Derek being brothers.
As series progressed, the characters seemed to get more two-dimensional. It was kind of frustrating because I really loved the first one, but not totally unexpected because I loathed the second one.
Where there was more of a plot to this book than the second book, it didn't feel like there was much of a conclusion, but this is the last book in the series. It feels like there should be at least one, if not two, more books in this series. A lot more could be done with this concept.
Given how negative the review seems, a rating of four seems high, but it's right. This series is one that I liked despite myself. It's worth the read for sure, especially because it's such a quick read. I cannot stress how quick these books fly by.
