Review of "Sunbolt" by Intisar Khanani
Page Count: 142 Pages
Publish Date: June 17th, 2013
Genre: YA/Fantasy
Synopsis: The winding streets and narrow alleys of Karolene hide many secrets, and Hitomi is one of them. Orphaned at a young age, Hitomi has learned to hide her magical aptitude and who her parents really were. Most of all, she must conceal her role in the Shadow League, an underground movement working to undermine the powerful and corrupt Arch Mage Wilhelm Blackflame.
When the League gets word that Blackflame intends to detain - and execute - a leading political family, Hitomi volunteers to help the family escape. But there are more secrets at play than Hitomi's and much worse fates than execution. When Hitomi finds herself captured along with her charges, it will take everything she can summon to escape with her life.
Review: Oh my goodness, I loved this book so much!
My only complaint is that it was way too short. 142 pages is not long enough for how wonderful this story is! Aside from the length, this book was such a perfect fit for me and basically anyone who enjoys a good fantasy novel.
It's fast paced, full of action, and has plenty of dramatic fight scenes. Aside from the fact that it is full of amazing action, the world building is incredible. Backed up by Intisar Khanani's incredible writing, the world she builds is detailed and beautiful.
The cast of characters is diverse and unique. Each one of them has realistic limitations and there is no chance of any of them being called unrealistic - aside from the magic use, but it's a fantasy novel so that's okay.
This book was enchanting and I cannot wait for the sequel Memories of Ash!
Rating: 5 STARS

Thanks so much for this wonderful review of Sunbolt--so thrilled that you enjoyed it so much! As for length, if it's any consolation, the sequel has turned itself into a full length novel. :) I am hoping for a late summer / early fall release. Thanks again!
