Review of "The Fiery Heart" by Richelle Mead

The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

Genre:
YA/Supernatural

Page Count: 420

Plot: "Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives.

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .

But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure — and re-education — looms larger than ever."

Review: Although, Vampire Academy will still always be my favorite, The Fiery Heart seemed to be one of the best in the Bloodlines series. Sydney really begins to flesh out even more and I like the fire in her at the end when she's defying Alchemist rules. Her relationship with Adrian in this book also is so much more, which is probably because of Adrian's character development. Adrian actually becomes more mature, which I really loved, because I love him and was so happy to see him growing more as a character.

The plot was well thought out and there were all these little details that made huge plot twists happen. I couldn't predict a lot of, which is nice. In the Vampire Academy series and Bloodlines series, they do tend to be predictable so this was a nice change. I did call a few things, but the little details that I didn't get made the surprise so much more intense.

Like always, Richelle Mead's writing seems to improve with each book she puts out. The sass of Rose Hathaway is in this one a little more and Sydney is a bit funnier than usual, which I loved!
